OLD CROYDONIANS

CROYDON HIGH SCHOOL, SURREY, ENGLAND

The committee have thought long and hard about the future of the Old Croydonians. For several years very few school leavers have joined. At the moment the OCs is viable but if this trend continues the future looks bleak.

The committee has met with Debbie Leonard, the new headmistress, to discuss the way forward. Debbie has had experience of a similar situation at her previous school Nottingham Girls’ High School and was involved with the initiating a new organisation known as Friend of Nottingham Girls’ High School (FNGHS) whose membership includes all former pupils , parents and other friends of the school. The FNGHS is administered by the school and membership is free.

The intention is to initiate a similar organisation at Croydon High School and the Old Croydonians have been invited by the head to become part of it.As we (the committee) see it this brings a number of benefits to the OCs such as increased administrative involvement of the school, more events, facilities for small group reunions as well as the annual lunch and a larger magazine.

The committee recommend that we accept this invitation to become part of the new association and a vote will be taken at the AGM and a majority decision will be final.

The new organisation (the friends of CHS) will have to have a name. Debbie Leonard is approaching the Sixth Form to come up with a name and a logo. The Sixth form will of course be among the first school leavers to join the association. The name will have been chosen by the time the vote is taken on June 11th.

The proposal to be voted on is as follows:

‘The members of the Old Croydonians resolve that, in the event of the formation of of an association known as ............... (The friends of Croydon High School), the Old Croydonians will be dissolved and members will become members of the new association with existing key benefits. All remaining funds belonging to the Old Croydonians will be donated to the Croydon High School Scholarship Trust.’

If you are unable to attend the AGM and would like to share your opinion please put it in writing and it will be read at the meeting.  Please  send it to:
Old Croydonians, 5 Melville Avenue, South Croydon, CR2 7HZ by May 31st 2011.
